Wines Of The Year
Each year the spittoons come out and everyone at the shop gets their heads together and chooses our red and white wines of the year. After several weeks of red stained teeth and heated debate the announcement is made. Our criteria for choice are always the same, they must represent both the best value for money and be a good illustration of the depth of range of wines we show case to the public.
D. Byrne & Co. Red Wine Of The Year £5.99
La Chapelle de Marin Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Patrice Armand
Blackberry and apple crumble in a glass!
Delicious bramble fruit aromas complement the rich fruit flavours which are backed up with a hint of cloves and cinnamon. Luscious, full, rich and easy to drink as tannins are smooth and supple.
The wine comes from old vines planted around the village of Cairanne on traditional pebble stone soil. Handpicked bunches are carefully de-stemmed and vinified using traditional minimal interventionist techniques. This wine is made without the use of oak to retain a pure fresh fruit character.

Cuvée a l’Ancienne Mâcon Charnay
Lovely peachy aromas on the nose leading to a full and ripe citrusy white wine. Long and lingering finish with gentle acidity make this wine perfect to match with food.
Grapes are hand-picked and then lightly pressed followed by static settling. After temperature controlled fermentation, the wines are left on their lees for at least six months before undergoing a light filtration to retain and enhance flavour and quality.
